The injunction states that they have the right to “religious accommodation” regarding vaccine mandate.
On Tuesday, Northern New York U.S. District Judge David Hurd issued a preliminary injunction that requires employers to allow religious exemptions from New York’s COVID-19 vaccine mandate for healthcare professionals. The state is also not allowed to revoke any exemptions that were previously granted.
Judge Hurd wrote that the workers’ case has constitutional merit in that the refusal to grant religious exemptions “conflicts with plaintiffs’ and other individuals’ federally protected right to seek a religious accommodation from their individual employers.”
New York Governor Kathy Hochul has stated she will continue legal action to enforce the mandate.
